Gaines Bishop

An “almost” lifelong Texan, Gaines Bishop began her professional career as hair cutter to the stars - rock stars that is. In her early 20’s as a member of the Dallas HairBerdasher show team she honed her creative talents in the high fashion world of beauty and the fast paced music industry.

A desire to travel and see the world led her to move to the Virgin Islands.  Upon returning to the  mainland after three years she decided to pursue a career in the medical field.  Beginning as a receptionist at a multi-specialty group in Century City in Los Angeles, she returned to college for medical courses, and began a career in medical office management.  She ultimately started her own business, which specialized in account recovery.  Four years later she sold the business and took a position in the California wine country as Vice President and General Manager of a medical billing firm.

After many years in corporate America, the travel bug bit again and in 1996 she joined the United States Peace Corps. Her assignment in Nicaragua exposed her once again to her creative side.  As with many Central American countries Nicaragua is rich in arts and crafts, thus upon returning to the U.S. she established EcoLight Candles.  She chose Austin as her destination and has expanded her business through arts and craft fairs, retail outlets, and mail order distribution.

Ever pursuing new outlets for her talents, in early 2006 she began jewelry making.  Her love and appreciation for the Mexican silversmiths has led her to creations using the thinnest of silver wire and exotic gem stones.  Expertly intertwining these two materials she has created her own style of delicately stunning pieces: earrings that dangle and sparkle, necklaces that encircle the neck and frame the face, and bracelets that add whimsy to the wrist.  At the end of 2006, she sold EcoLight Candles and relocated to Denison, TX to assist her 88 yr. old mother.   CRAZY RED CAT JEWELRY is new to the Texoma area, but it is fast making a name for itself.  As Gaines once again hones her skills with classes and experimentation, she is quickly becoming “THE” artist to watch.
